    Hi, and thanks for reading.
I'm a new collector and a first time poster: What is the best price guide for actual prices you should pay for coins (particularly Lincolns) in the local shop or on Ebay? I'm particularly interested in the 1909-S VDB. I saw one in VF on Ebay for $775 last week. Is that too much to pay? What's that listed at in the "Greysheet"?
Thanks everyone for your help...I look forward to reading your responses.

I don't have a gray sheet right here but if that was me I would have bought it...

I'm sure if it was on ebay it didn't go off for that much...did it??

I have been looking for one but more in the G-F range...

PS---I would suggest that you ONLY buy this coin slabbed...there are many fakes out there.

Speedy's right, DONT buy this one raw, especially on eBay!

I would have to say go for it...I paid a pretty "cent" for my MS-63. Yes...I tried to be funny on that one.

Thankyou all very much for replying.
I didn't know it was possible to fake such a coin...what are the most popular forgeries. I guess adding an "S" mintmark to a regular '09 VDB?
How much does a '09-S VDB usually go for in VF?
    Thanks again...

You can fake ANY coin...I have had fakes of key date coins and common coins...
I think sometimes they had the VDB to a real 1909-S cent.

The most popular forgery with this is just like you said...adding an "S" to an already 1909 VDB. I purchased a VF-20 for $625 in March. I'm sure it's not that much different now.

I second all...make sure it is authenticated. Just recent, I saw a 1914-D Lincoln on eBay that was nothing more than a "shaved" 1944-D made to look like a 14-D.

Buy it slabbed with a top TPG...that is the only way I would buy it "sight-unseen".
