I just saw the Lincoln Coin & Chronicles set listed with a "Fall" release date on the mint's upcoming product schedule. It's about time they put it back on there, considering how many of us were waiting all spring for the "Summer" release date only to have it completely disappear off the radar for a couple of months. My guess would be that this set had the same penny problem as the other copper cent products this year.
YAY! Bring it on! I'm getting very suspecious of the mint now. I'm betting on they moved it back so they could produce more sets and pull an LP2 on us. Remember how everyone freaked out after the LP1's ran out? How they screwed all collectors by producing 100 billion LP2 sets? I'm betting they will produce a nearly infinite quantity, sufficent to meet all demand and have some left to melt, until they can suck every possible dollar out of collectors and drive the after-market price to well below issue price. I'm sure they are well aware of the hype and how people have calculated the number of sets that could be made based on the dollar coin mintages/sold. I'm saying BAH to the Mint this time....I just know they are preparing to pull another fast one.
C'mon Bad, not so pessimistic. I like to think it was other issues that caused the delay. I'll be looking forward to them, if nothing else than just to have one for myself. Also, I noticed they have scheduled a Lincoln Bicentenial Cent Proof Set for August. First I've heard of this. Is it the same one as in the Proof and SilverProof sets ?

The jury is still out on these. Unlike a few of the Coin and currency sets which have very low mintage coins in them like the 94 and 97 nickels, hundreds of thousands of these proof cents are going to be produced. Now if they were to use the zinc/copper composition in the proof sets and the 95% copper composition in these sets, then the price of these would be through the roof on the after market, but this is not the case. The only difference is that you will be able to say that you are one in 50,000 to own this particular set, and apparently these days that drives prices. I may just buy the set to resell it on ebay.
Quite sure about that or is it just the Lincolns proof set? Can't check right know as the mint web site is down for maintainence, but, if I remember what I read the other day, these are only penneys (cents)...
I could be wrong, but from what I read it was not a chronicals set but a proof set which led me to believe that no dollar coin was included... From what I remember the statement was Lincoln Proof set. There was no indication that a dollar coin was included...
According to the US mint new blog, there will be two lincoln sets released later in the year. A 4 coin proof bicentennial set and the coin and chronicles set which will have 4 proof lincoln cents and the proof silver dollar. I also want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. I am operating on a few hours sleep and not all there.
I do indeed hope to see a chronicles set. I was quite concerned that one wasn't going to be issued this year...
hope they keep it to 50,000 sets. Time will tell. I think that it sucks that they are now going to offer the four coin set. Think of all of the broken proof sets out there now. Doesn't the mint usually release a smaller sets before the proof set is out. Like the pres. dollar and quarter set?
Usually..... but we are talking about the US Mint here. This kind of stuff always happens in the industry that I work in...... basically, people who are not collectors are making decisions for collectors. They just don't get all the intricacies with the hobby. This is why we need a collector to run the mint, they would get us. You know when I worked for Pfizer Pharaceuticals about 8 years ago, some of the most productive years in the company were during the 1990's when a former sales rep who climbed the corporate ladder and rose to the CEO position. After he retired, the company hired a bunch of MBA's and PhD's to run the company into the ground. If you want to sell to us, you need to be one of us.
I think there are 2 different sets. One with a dollar coin and one without. The "cents only" set is also news to me (I did see it listed earlier but forgot to mention it in the top post). As noted, the Lincoln Bicentennial Proof set is going to be only the LP1 - LP4 pennies, and the Chronicles set is going to be the 4 pennies plus a proof dollar coin. For the latter, they sold out the proofs (released on Lincoln's birthday) but held back 50,000 especially for the Chronicles set.
why issue a 4 coin lincoln cent proof set?. we already got it. the silver and clad proof set. maybe with a box and c.o.a. just like the 6 pc quarter and 4 pc prez set. man. it will be expensive for that 4 pc lincoln cent proof set. i think around $19.95 per set. because the set without box and c.o.a. is selling at $15.95 to $18.95 a set. now the chronicle set might be expensive as well. the silver dollar is around $70.00 and the 4 pc cent is $20.00. the whole 5 pc set should be around $99.95 to $119.95 a set. i rather buy the 18 pc clad proof set or silver proof set.
I guess they're (mint) just trying to accommodate small collectors who can't afford a full proof set. They do it with dollars and quarters, why not cents?
