    Hello,
This is my first post here as I am new to this coin hunting business. I've been at it for about 6 months and have found nothing as far as errors go. Which brings me to my point. I found both of these in the same roll. Just need a helping hand in determining if these are doubling or if I've just been staring at coins for too long. First I believe may be 1969 s double date, and the second a 1982 double die reverse. Both are not in great condition but I figured worth checking. I am new to this and this forum so I apologize if I'm wasting anyone's time by posting this. Thanks

You're not wasting anyone's time, but the answer unfortunately is no and no. You are seeing doubling, but just not the kind you're surely hoping for.

    Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the kind words and help. So on goes the hunt...

Quick question, a local coin dealer told me he has a bag of unsorted wheaties that he hasnt had time to look at and would sell me for $200, is that a fair price?

    good luck, not the DDO

as for the wheaties, it depends on how many are in the bag

In my opinion if you have $200 to spend I would purchase some graded raw or slabbed coins depending on your preference for the two. Go after a set. Anyhow this is just my opinion.

There's no such thing as an unsorted bag of wheaties that a dealer had no time to look at.

Unsorted by everyone else but the dealer.

That was going to be my next question...exactly. He has some uncirculated 1970s rolls also, think I may snag those.

What tex meant is that they HAVE ALREADY BEEN SEARCHED over and over again. It's pointless to pay too much of a premium for them.

I have bought some unsorted wheaties before. Of course they have already been searched for key dates and the like, but I paid back the price of the purchase with 2 doubled dies I found, and still made some profit afterwards. Not all people that sell wheat use have the time, patience, or knowledge to search for coins other than the key dates of a certain series.

A good rule of thumb is, if you're not sure that you're seeing doubling... you aren't.

I understood what he meant, was just pointing out that my next question was going to be that they surely must have been searched by someone at some point. Regardless, its a bag of 5000 cents for $200. The "what if" factor will likely win and I'll get them. I'll post my results. Thanks again for everyone's responces.

This would be my opinion as well. I'm in this hobby a few years only and struggled to find a direction until I started my type set. Looking for errors is a specialty area and IMO will drive you bonkers. Start simple with a type set, maybe find decent examples of the half cents that started in the 1800s; draped bust, classic head, braided hair. I love these ladies and never tire of looking at them.
