Hi all, I just figured out how to post pics (yeah, I know I'm slow). I thought it would be fun to post pics of TPG (PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS only) coins and let members guess the grade. I will start off by posting pics of the obverse and reverse of the coin only. Then all of you get to have fun guessing the grade. After a while (I don't know how long) I will post a pic of the entire slab and you can see how accurate your grade was to "the pros". There is no prize for the winner, except for the knowledge gained. I know it's not real easy to determine a grade by pics, but I will try to get the best ones that I can.

Some of you from the defunct CW forum may remember me posting about this coin, but since that board is gone, you cannot go back to see the grade there (how good is your memory?)

    Here goes...

    1938-S Lincoln Obverse

    1938-S Lincoln Reverse

    Let the grading begin!!!

I think I have one of these. I will go with MS64RD and possibly a 1938 S/S/S. The S mint mark is very similiar to my S/S/S.

I'd also say 64RD. That gash to the left of Abe's head precludes it from grading higher, IMO.

Gee, I thought more people would be interested in playing. Is this type of thread a bad idea, or do I need to use another series besides Lincolns? Any ideas that would make more members participate would be great.

BTW, I'll give it a couple more days to see if anyone else wants to chime in with a guess before I reveal it.

When I hit the link it says that I am forbidden to have access. Is there an issue with your image host, or is it just me?

I can't see them either - it says I'm forbidden to view the site. :( I love the idea of this thread, though. I like grading coins. :)

Huh, I don't know what happened. I had just registered at the host site the same day I posted the link and it worked then. I hadn't been back to the host site in a couple of days, and now when I try, I don't have permission either!!!! (And I'm the one who opened the account!!!)

Oh well, that explains why nobody wanted to play with me! ;)

Guess I'll have to kick that unreliable image host to the curb and find a new one!! (anybody know of any?)

When I get a new host I'll try it again.

BTW edzak and ziggy29, I agree with your grades, although NGC doesn't. They graded it MS66RD.

The links in the original post are broken. I might put them up just so everyone can see what they couldn't before, but it will have to wait a while.

We'll play this game again in a new thread.

No need for a new host - just attach them right here in your post ;)

For those of you who couldn't see my first pics, here they are again. (Although I have aready spoiled the game). Like I said earlier, I'll come up with another.

Gee Doug, I never knew you were a poet as well. A many faceted man you are. ;)

Actually I've tried putting pics in my posts, but it would always tell me my file was too big. Me being more of a coin collector than a computer programmer, I could never figure out how to downsize the files. (Wouldn't mind learning though...)

I really like Photobucket, and I have only been signed up for an hour or so.

If you only knew - I actually do write poetry ;)

What I was thinking though was more along the lines of you doing this -

:D And I was once a song writer for a Heavy Metal band!! :D It's kinda like angry poetry ;)

With your attachment, you still have to link it from an image host don't you? Any time I tried to load a file as large as yours onto the forum it was too large.

(Reminder to self... Put on a bib before looking at Doug's gold!! Now I gotta go change my shirt!)

I uploaded that one directly from my computer - you just need to keep them under 100k.

Now - if you'll send me an email with the operating system your using ( Windows 2000 - XP whatever ) I'll see if I can explain to you how to change your file size so those problems just go - POOF ! :D
