With all the insanity of the 2009 Lincoln Cent Rolls on the first day of issue with first day Postal cancellations last year. And all of the insane prices on ebay It was a very exciting thing to watch. When the Log Cabin rolls were at moon money on ebay. My son found 11 rolls at the corner Walgreens. Was very cool. I thought it would be cool to have a roll of coin post mark canceled before the first day of issue. When an opportunity came on the 2010 Lincolns I did just that. Got two rolls out of puerto Rico three weeks before the Official release On Feb. 1st 2010 I took the one roll I had not cracked open and took it to a small local Post Office in Comstock Mi. and bought and Olympics stamp and put it on the roll and had the nice lady hand cancel it. (Was watching a lot of the Olympics at the time) The official launch occurred on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 9:30 AM Central Time at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois. Just ran across this in the safe today. almost forgot about it. Just wanted to share a weird numismatic idea I had earlier this year. If you have had a weird numismatic experience Please feel free to share Terry
Puerto Rico rolls. Congrats on the PR roll, and it is cool to see someone else do the same as I. I also got mine stamped dated at the Post Office before the official release date. I bought a whole box from the seller in PR, and after the third roll I quit opening them. The reason was that the coins had so very many die cracks, I remember seven-in one roll-all DIFFERENT. As a follower of DVN Die Variety News of Billy Crawford fame (and that dude is seriously skilled in my collecting book), I figured that all those cracks had to come from scads of different dies. As it turns out, there are NOT alot of doubled dies seen in 2010 from the official ceremony. But I do have a doubled ear 2010. Guess where it is from. Come on. Guess. Congrats if you bought those rolls in quantity.
Legend, Big Congratulation on the Box of PR 2010 and the PR Doubled Ear. I myself was only able to grab two rolls at the time and cracked open one. so that I could supply a local coin shop with some examples for the collectors that really enjoy the Lincoln series. I have a few singles left from that roll. I will have to check them for die cracks again, I do not remember seeing any the first time around.I will have to look them over again. It did look like Lincoln's forehead and eye were doubled on quite a few of them but Alas Dr. James Wiles did not agree. I agree Billy Crawford is very good. I enjoy the DVN when ever I have time to read it. And when I can find it. All of a sudden the domain where he used to park it. Gives just a 404 and a roadrunner. If you know where he has moved to and could share that would be great. Terry
DVN News That's the website. He has everything you need, he attributes thousands of coins, steadily, throughout the year. He has a superlative publication, with detailed analyses that are corroborated photographically. Pretty much all alone in the field of numismatic attribution photojournalism. Oughta be an award for the type of work he does for the hobby. Just type in DVN. Die Variety News.com. Billy Crawford 239 Barbera Drive Ladson, C.C. 29456-4862 $49.00 for the digital disc guide to US Cent errors 1909-2009. You need this reference source, as well as Coppercoins.com, and Koinpro, of Ken Potter fame (also alone in his field). Potter attributes all kinds of stuff, and also sells cult coins, for those with special bullion needs.
Leg End I think you may have misunderstood me. I was looking for the web address where Mr. Crawford had moved the Die Variety News Magazine to. The old web address is no good anymore. I looked around a little deeper and found it http://www.dvnmagazine.com/ Issue no. 14 is out You are absolutely right Billy Crawford and Ken Potter should receive awards for their research. The amount of time these gentleman put into it and the amount that they help the hobby is simply amazing. I just sent some shots of a 2005 S Sac Dollar with a strike through on the obverse and a large die crack on the reverse last night. After reading an article of his on the Numismaster web site about die cracked proofs. he was requesting if any one ran across these to shoot him an e-mail. I think he may be trying to find out how many are out there. Terry
