I'm looking for help making my new site, www.lincolncentresource.com I need good pics and articles. Check out my site. Let me know if you want to contribute. Thanks, Brad
Yep, watch that, you have Double Dies !! Great looking site, Lincoln collectors can always use another fun site to browse, Thanks !!
I guess I'm used to Ebay, where almost everyone calls them "double dies". I'll make the change. Thanks! Brad www.lincolncentresource.com
I could probably contribute a small writeup providing the diagnostics of the Matte Proof Lincolns from 1909-1916.
You are welcome to use my recently posted pics of Lincolns. I'm sure you probly have a nice 09 VDB pic, but the 54 S/S RPM is something you might need. If you need better quality shots, let me know.
Didn't I just read in Coin World where Q. David Bowers is coming out with a Lincoln cent study? But something online is ALWAYS welcome.
Yes you did, he is completing it now. See his column in this week's Coin World. No such thing as too much information.
I don't think that Heritage would appreciate me stealing their images. I can ask them, but I'm not optimistic. They are the only site that I can find pictures of the 1922 Weak D die pair 4. I am also aware of David Bowers new book coming out. But, why buy a book, when my site is free. My goal is to have all the info your average Lincoln cent collector needs. In other words, if you're already an expert, my site may not be for you. I won't have every possible rpm and doubled die know - I'll leave that to coppercoins.com and coneca. I will however have info on Wide AM's, Small dates, OMM's, and so on including the most popular varieties. I also plan on having downloadable checklists for collectors. My site should look a lot better in a month. Thanks, Brad www.lincolncentresource.com
Call them yourself but they don't mind my use of their photos. I also run a site kindof like yours: www.varietynickels.com, and Heritage gave me premission to use their photos as long as I give credits. Speedy
Decent web site but I think you may be a little late. Have you tried www.coppercoins.com ? The guy there has well over 10,000 photos of Lincoln Cents. Also, has two books out on that coin and is working on a third one. His web site has been around for a while now and I heard he has another web site for the purchase and sale of Lincoln Cents but never tried that yet. Possible you may want to contact Charles D. Doughtrey at that site and possibly work with him. May be just to many coin web sites on the same subject.
What I don't like about coppercoins is that he focuses on doubled dies and rpms, but completely ignores other things like omms, small dates, wide AM's, etc.. It seems weird to me that you can find info on 1960 D rpm 127, but can't find info on 1944 d/s omm 1. My site is more for collectors who need answers to simple questions like, what is a "Wide AM", what is a 1922 plain cent, how can I tell a 1970 s small date from a large date. Coppercoins is great for identifying double dies and rpms, but I could never find any other use for it. I think Charles D. Daughtrey is great. He has answered many of my questions, and I have even purchased coins form him. I think you will find that my site is going to be completely different. I emailed Heritage today, and you're right. They said I could use their pics as long as I give them credit. Who knew. My section on the four 1922 die pairs is now complete with pictures. Thanks, Brad www.lincolncentresource.com
Brad - nice site - you might want to take Shortgapbob up on his offer to provide a write up on the diagnostics of Matte Proofs. He helped me out with my 1909 Matte proof. Good luck Brad
Odd. I'm looking at his second edition now and the 22plain is explained enough for me. The 70S is pictured fantastically. I would think, as you noted, your web site will be different. However, when he comes out with his next edition, Whitman comes out with theirs and I've seen numerous other books at coin shows on just Lincoln Cents, the Lincoln Cent market is going to be over flooded with repetitious information. Hopefully your web site is a success anyway. Myself, I'll just use what I've got now and I can always just ask Chuck. Sorry.
In my last message I was referring to the website coppercoins.com. Certainly there are a lot of good books out there. But, I think you can agree that books have limitations. If you like to buy books, thats fine. I'm really not trying to compete with every resource out there. I personally always felt that if I had money to spend, I would rather buy coins than books about coins. My website is free and will be constantly updated with new info. I'm not trying to compete with anyone. Once my website gets going, I am considering having a "Lincoln Cent Varieties Price Guide". I think that this may interest a lot of collectors.
