I pretty much took my list from the lincolncentresource's "top 50" varieties. I am saving all wheats at this point, so I haven't even started looking through them yet. 1) Am I missing any obvious ones? 2) is it possible to order them by chance of actually *finding* the error? 1999 WAM 1998 WAM /2x ear 1997 ddo 1995/1995d ddo 1994 ddr 1992 cam 1988 rdv006 1987d rpm 1985d rpm 1984 ddo 1983 ddr 1982 ddr 1980 ddo 1972d ddo 1972 ddo 1971 ddo (1969s ddo - extremely rare) 1968d ddr/rpm 1964 ddr 1963d ddo 1961d rpm 1960d ddr/rpm
I can't put them in order for you but I can tell you that the 1982 DDR is extremely rare. since I discovered the first one in 2007 there have only been two others found,
There have been times where I have found 2 varieties in a single roll. There have also been times where I have gone through 1,000 cents without a single find. And a lot of the stuff that I do find is quite minor, listed only on coppercoins.com. I have found a few cherrypicker's varieties in my searches, but again those are much less frequently found. If you feel like you are not finding many varieties, it could be that there are just not many in your area. Or maybe you are searching only a specific date range. Keep in mind that RPMs and DDOs occur pretty much every year on coins (RPMs are limited to 1989 and earlier), so it is just a matter of time and patience before you might find one.
I'm trying to narrow down my search by two main criteria: 1) Likelihood I'll actually *find* one 2) Will it have any resale value? I'm doing it just to help finance my non-error coin purchases.
