I think it is just machine doubling. The O in ONE is kinda neat. Resembles the DDR of the 1983 Philly cent. But the E is a dead giveaway note the center arm where it is really narrow.
Welcome! Are you using baking soda on your coins? Go on to the internet and read everything you can about doubled dies, strike doubled, machine doubled, ejection doubled. You can probably search the Coin Talk files.
Here start with this site. Put in a coin and see how many varieties there are for it with the help of the photos they show. It may help you avoid the grumpy old farts comments (no offense to the grumpy old farts, I'm just joking) http://coppercoins.com/advsearch.php
Awesome! Thank you so much! I've tried reading about it but there is so much and it gets a little confusing at times.
Don't try any house chemicals on them, such as baking soda, but there are some chemicals (eg Acetone, Xylene, distilled water, BadThad's Verdicare) that work. Only use them on coins that really need to be cleaned with them though.
Just keep looking at coins and pictures. Google the cherrypickers guides. Definitely a good place to start learning about the minting process and how varieties happen. They are affordable books and definitely worth having in my opinion.
Well there is white stuff all over them and one is a little green. Take your time and study the error sites on the internet. Most are well written for beginners. On an open forum such as this, you'll need to deal with often conflicting opinions from members with various skill levels. It can get confusing. I've been guilty myself of posting misinformation (thankfully corrected) and I feel I should know better. Seems we are all beginners at times.
IMHO, you may be confusing the OP with this post. My apologies to ancient collectors BUT; there is a huge difference between a crappy ancient and a struck modern coin. Heck, I've scrubbed an ancient down to bare metal with a wire brush and chemicals, buffed it with dremel "wheel" and soda, then recolored it. Made a nice addition to my collection. That said, DAISNAID - it's best not to clean coins.
You are correct I also know you're aware of my recent BD issue. I was only trying to make a point to the poster that it can be used & I posted that I used it on a bronze. You're also aware when it comes to ancients I'm only a beginner, with much to learn. I should've held that comment since the OP is new the coin collecting. I apologize @Kellyrae18
No worries! And actually I've been collecting for about 5 years now just recently started to get into the error coins
Just so you know @Kellyrae18 . Sometimes I forget who's posting what & when. @Insider is right & we've all done it. I within the last 4 months put away most of my collection 30 plus years worth. Only because I needed something new a new challenge. I love history that always been the back bone to my collection. Ancient history is a passion. So I started collecting ancient coins. I'm just as new to that as you to today's coins. I get frustrated & embarrassed at times. But the people across this forum are for the most part are great. You can learn a lot. Now I also still collect modern coins just not as much as I used to.
I have NO IDEA of your posts or expertise. I do a lot of busy-body lurking on CT. I remember a really good thread on BD. I posted on it but cannot tell you any other member who was on that thread. PS I have heard it said that eventually every true numismatist evolves to collect ancients.
