im working on getting a pic posted. new to the forum and still havent figured everything out yet.... but today i went and got $10 worth of pennies and came across one that says 199. its a wide am so im assuming its before 1993... could this be an error coin or what.. i know not much input can be given without seeing a photo but id thought id ask.
Perhaps a filled die error. Grease and dirt sometimes fill portions of a die causing lost or, what I call "ghost", characters and devices. Good call on the date, knowing a wide AM does help narrow the date range.
still no luck on getting a good photo of the coin.. like you said theres seems to be a "ghost" image of a 1 the cent is obviously worn but the steps on the back are still pretty good shape the 199 is definitely legibily and not worn at all... ill think ill just hold on to it for the next so many years...
