hello all i was looking through one of my bags of 50's wheats looking for RPM's and i noticed on some that the bottom half of the B in liberty was filled in. Is this anything special or just common?

    thanks in advance

Pretty common. It's just a die crack or grease-filled. I would put it aside though, I like things like that. I pull out all the ones I find that have the 9 filled in or the I"I"B error. I think die cracks cool.

    Hi,
These are very common. They are called die chips and not die cracks. What we see as the inside opening of a B, for example is raised on the die. That piece breaks out and coins struck after that have what look like a raised blob in the opening.

It can happen anywhere on the coin but often happens on the inside part of a smaller detail like the opening of a 0 on a 1960 D small date cent or between the legs of the R of LIBERTY.

    Have Fun,
    Bill
