Interesting proposal from the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.

I for one would be very for this. That is one thing I dislike is our boring coins. Most have been the same design for a century. I know the article states it would be alongside current designs but it would be something.

I know I wanna see a pretty lady on coins again. The liberty featured on the platinum coins every year I find lovely, I just can afford an example.

Would you be for this idea?

I totally agree. My favorite coins are those old draped bust quarters, half cents etc. from the early 1800's. Beautiful design work. Morgan dollar designs are also gorgeous. Bring back Lady Liberty!

It's got my vote - would love to see new coinage with Lady Liberty on it...

Funny you say that about the APE's. I do find the designs lately pretty appealing. I have debated about buying them, but my conundrum is APEs, First Spouse gold, or ancient gold? Don't have the bank account for all three by any means.

It's be a gimmick to get collectors to shell out $5 for a dime. I'm all for liberty on coinage in place of dead presidents, but if they're going to do so, then just do it, don't pander to fear of being the guy who removed Washington from the quarter. Truth is, most people wouldn't notice, or even care. As much as I'd like to see it, I think we'll be stuck with lifeless, boring coin subjects for many, many generations to come.

How many schoolkids even know Washington anymore, save for his was "just another slaveowner". :(

No sense trying to educate the public if the public schools are demonizing our great historical leaders.

Personally, I am vehemently opposed to dead presidents on our coins, for the same reason leaders of the Roman Republic were. Once you start a cult of personality you make way for a king, and that is the exact opposite of the foundation of both the Roman Republic and supposedly the United States.

    Not many...

I personally dislike Washington, but that is not the point..

This is going a little too far...

It was a mix of great leaders and not-so-great leaders.

    I am, bar one coin...

IMHO Roosevelt, who I greatly respect, deserves to be on the dime.

Other than that, I agree with your final paragraph...

I'd like to see more allegorical imagery on our coins instead of dead politicians.

I wonder what our current batch of (widely disapproved) politicians will vote for?

You DO know: They'll vote against anything the other fellow wants.

Gridlock will be present in this issue, as always.

HMM... Well I for one am against it. Not that I have anything against Lady Liberty. In fact it is just the opposite. Just the thought of a low relief, spaghetti haired lady liberty on modern clad coinage scares the bejeebers out of me. How about if we just remember her just they way she was when coin designs were art and not the mass production junk we have today.

I have to wonder what the current era Lady Liberty would look like? How do young adult women express their freedom today? Dreadlocks, dyed hair, tattoos, piercings, etc.

Which brings the question, how do you capture this on a non-colorized coin meant for circulation:

I would care less as well. We'll still see his mug on the dollar bill for years to come anyways.

Given the fact that just about every collector in the US would be very happy to see this happen, I can imagine that they will produce these new coins at every mint in many different formats including business strikes, proofs, matte proofs and reverse proofs in several different metals. I would love to see it though.

    YES! And so did Washington.

Would I like to see this proposal pass? No. Why? Because we don't need a whole bunch of one year only Liberty designs.

Yeah, but the bill was written that way to allow our gutless, stand avoiding, kick the can down the road idiots that work for us to maybe allow its passage. :(

I would like to see Liberty on all our coinage, and I would not mind even if Liberty was portrayed in her ethnic versions. The one misgiving I have with the idea is that there were good reasons why our coinage followed certain similar types, ie, Flowing hair, draped bust, capped bust, seated liberty, barber coinage and that is because when you have one type people become more familiar with the type and it stops counterfieting more.
