Has anyone ever seen a Liberty Dollar from the British colony of Anguilla? These coins were counterstamped in 1967 at the time it declared its secession from St Kitts & Nevis. The coins from a number of countries were counterstamped. If you have got any information, can you please leave a posting here? Aidan.
I don't have any extra information about them, but I know I do have one. I don't remember what the host coin is.
Conder101,can you please post some pictures of the coin? That way,I may be able to tell you what the host coin would be.
It's not that I can't identify the host coin, it's just that I don't remember what it is. (I'm not where the coin or the catalog is.)
I collect counterstamps, adn these regularly turn up on ebay when I do searches. Seems like on some the lettering is colored black - is this true? Anyway I assume they were largely done as souvenirs, but osmeday I will get one. The price seems to be consistent at $25 or so - I hope there isn't some guy who is still cranking these out.
1967 Anguilla Liberty dollars, as far as i can see there are 13 different types of coins used for this. They are from Mexico,Peru, Yemen, Panama, Philippines, Ecuador, China and Great Britain.
John, the listings in the Krause catalogues describe the host coin as being 'Mexico KM (number)',but not what the actual coin the host coin's number is referring to in terms of denomination. Aidan.
Two such Mexican coins I have in my collection are both 5 Peso coins. 1948 dated 5 Peso 1952 dated 5 Peso Apart from these, I have one crown from Peru and one Maria Theresa counterstampped coin from Anguilla. Some of these are very scarce coins and I haven't seen very many in last several years. Regards, Ballabh Garg
