I was pleasantly surprised to see an unexpected package arrive from Leu Numismatik this week. In it was an impressive hardbound catalogue for their upcoming Printed Auction on 25 October 2017 (refer photos below). Years ago before I gave collecting a break I used to receive countless catalogues. Since returning to the hobby beginning of 2017, I have not received a single catalogue despite bidding at many auctions. I understand that to now be the norm - unless you pay for it. So I have missed the experience of running through the physical catalogue and planning carefully what I want to bid on. Did anyone else receive the Leu Numismatik catalogue? To anyone else's knowledge are there other auction firms which mail out copies of catalogues to their loyal customers without charging them for it? Peter
I received it about 2 weeks ago. I have very much enjoyed looking through it and have identified a number of targets. Here is another thread concerning the catalogue https://www.cointalk.com/threads/auction-catalogs-and-ethics.303556/#post-2864642
My wife asked me how much I paid for the catalog upon arrival. These are nicer than most high school year books. I see they're looking for longevity of their brand; as these books will last a long time. From what I can see from their Instagram photos, the employees pictured are fairly young. It seems they've looked for and found a niche.
The Leu catalogue is very nice. Another lovely hardcover catalogue I received in the past year was by Nomos. Quite a number of firms still send out free catalogues for their major auctions - CNG, Roma, HJB, amongst others. They may be taking some time to add you to their mailing list.
