I'm going to post an image of the edge of a $20 Saint. I want interested members to describe (IN DETAIL) what they see in the image with so much detail that when they close their eyes they can still see it. Additionally, their description is so detailed that someone who cannot see this image gets a good idea of what the edge looks like!

If you wish, I'll rate your "eye-for-detail" for some feedback. Put "RATE ME" at the end of your post. Let's see if we can eventually get all A's after several of these quizzes. :D

I'll use this method to match more trifling die markers when I'm attributing Morgan dollars. If I can describe it to myself with words, I don't have to look back at the coin while I'm going through a bunch of pictures looking for a match. Small time investment up front, but saves time in the long run.

Anyway, raised LU, widely spaced, in a serif font. Lumps (die chips?) present on both letters, most notably on the upper right of the vertical of the L and upper right of the right vertical of the U. Nearly horizontal die polishing lines run through both letters, with a more pronounced spike at the middle of the left side of the left upright of the U. Additional spike from the center of the bottom of the base of the L. Assorted contact marks, including one shaped like Vietnam just left of the U. RATE ME!

A+++ the final + would have come if you had mentioned the tiny rim nicks. Hey, no one is perfect.

This folks is exactly how it is done. I wish all of you would learn to look this closely at my poor images lacking white balance!

This was the reason for the exercise. This edge is on a counterfeit. Messy caught two important diagnostics BY JUST POSTING the details he saw. After you look at enough Saint edges, you would know that these "lumps" (die chips or defects in the C/F die) are not seen on any genuine Saint edge.

I thought the quiz was that you misspelled "quizzes" in the thread title. oops.
I can't improve on messydesk's description for detail. I do, however see the faint outline of a horse between L and U, as made.

Walking to the left? I can't not see it now that you mentioned it. There's a little duck to the right of the U swimming in the polishing lines toward the lump.
