I thought it would be appropriate to start a thread on your Victories and Nikes. Coveted by collectors the Nike/Victory Icon is used on coinage throughout time and by many different cultures. Lets see them! I encourage the WORLD Collectors to include there coins of Victory of with Victory on it. I think it will be an interesting spread to see.. Lets start off with some my largest Victory/Nike. (Modern Turkey) Anatolia,Pamphylia, Side, c. BC 200 AR 30mm Tetradrachm , 15.88g obverse: Helmeted Head of Athena reverse: Victory Advancing hold wreath, Pomegranate in reverse left field. Monogram: Wreath / AR ref: CNG31-63010 Another on of my favorite Nikes come from much farther east. This is one of my favorites in my collection. Antimachos I (168-160 BC) AR Drachm 17 mm x 2.42 g Obverse: BASILEWS NIKYFOROU ANTIMAXOU, Nike walking left, holding branch, monogram before. Reverse: Karoshti legend: Maharajasa jayadharasa Antimakasa, armed and uniformed King on horseback galloping right. Taxila mint, MACW 1674. BMCRE 475. RSC 277. Dimensions:- 22.04 mm x 19.07 mm Severely double struck. It looks like there was a very off-centre initial strike and the coin was re-struck with a central strike. An ugly coin with a story to tell.
