I thought it would be appropriate to start a thread on your Victories and Nikes. Coveted by collectors the Nike/Victory Icon is used on coinage throughout time and by many different cultures. Lets see them! I encourage the WORLD Collectors to include there coins of Victory of with Victory on it. I think it will be an interesting spread to see..

Lets start off with some my largest Victory/Nike.

    (Modern Turkey) Anatolia,Pamphylia, Side, c. BC 200
    AR 30mm Tetradrachm , 15.88g
    obverse: Helmeted Head of Athena
reverse: Victory Advancing hold wreath, Pomegranate in reverse left field.
    Monogram: Wreath / AR
    ref: CNG31-63010

Another on of my favorite Nikes come from much farther east. This is one of my favorites in my collection.

    Antimachos I (168-160 BC)
    AR Drachm 17 mm x 2.42 g
Obverse: BASILEWS NIKYFOROU ANTIMAXOU, Nike walking left, holding branch, monogram before.
Reverse: Karoshti legend: Maharajasa jayadharasa Antimakasa, armed and uniformed King on horseback galloping right. Taxila mint, MACW 1674.
Sellers Note: These bilingual drachms were struck during Antimachos'' occupation of Gandhara and Taxila, (Pakistan and North Western India) ca.168-160 BC.

Alexandrian coins are often dismissed as being crude. I think that Nike has been beautifully engraved on this one.

    Severely double struck.

It looks like there was a very off-centre initial strike and the coin was re-struck with a central strike.

An ugly coin with a story to tell.
