1957-D Lincoln Cent (PCGS MS66BN). The sulfur-laden Cardboard Mint Set holders issued by the U.S.Mint from 1947-1958 caused, under the right conditions, some spectacular color. This effect seemed to be maximized in the year 1957.
This beautiful AU Bust Half I got for my birthday. Cell phone pics to hold y'all over until I get back home with my full setup.
I didn't intend to torture anyone. With the peeks of copper on the reverse, one could make a case for RB instead of BN, but I like the BN color class. By the way, those parallel streaky lines that run through the obverse and reverse color on this coin, is a really good "tell" for Natural Toning (NT). Whenever you see those lines (they look a bit like a driving windswept rainstorm), you can almost bank on a problem-free grade from PCGS. I am not 100% sure why they form, but it's a pattern that is practically impossible to artificially engineer.
Here's an 1876 NGC MS61 seated quarter I picked up over the weekend for my type set. I've never really cared much for the look of Lady Liberty on seated coinage, but I just love the motto reverse on the seated quarter. These are seller pics. I liked that the coin has a centennial date, and I think the coin has character. Aside from the interesting color, there are some great clash marks on the obverse right field in front of Liberty's leg, forearm, and around the wrist and pole area. There's also a lovely die crack on the reverse that starts at the U in United, extending down through the wing and branch tips and on through QUA in Quar. Dol.
Impulse buy. Good enough price to make it happen. Didn't think coins lacking blazing luster could get a grade higher than a 67, but i guess i was wrong. Also my first fattie holder.
I found a nice 2007-W burnished Silver Eagle the other day on the bay... it's an NGC MS69, the noise in the field above "In God We Trust" and the marks on the reverse are from the slab...
1853 Seated Liberty Arrows & Rays Quarter Dollar I had to add this to the collection. I like the reverse and the one year production run. Only thing I don't like is the coin is not seated in the holder correctly. In search of the half dollar next.
I'm getting there like 59% complete according to the pcgs registry so if u include the 4 ngc coins I'm getting there.
