I've read someone on here (sorry, I don't remember who) say that they refuse to buy a "pig in a poke." I've had some amazing luck with buying full sets of coins, but with "unsearched" rolls, I've now subscribed to that mantra too. Recently bought an old roll of silver quarters from a "Denver bank" with a 1932 (VF+) on one side and a D on the other. Didn't pay much over spot for it which should have let me know that nobody else believes in unsearched rolls either. The coins weren't bad. Had about 40% mint-marks and all were older than 1947. Of course, the 1932 was from Philly and there was nothing of any real numismatic value in there. Also bought a roll of Buffalo nickels in an old roll from the Bank of San Francisco. Had a VF+ 1921 on one side and a S mintmark on the other. Assumed (incorrectly) that the Bank of San Francisco would have had more S-mintage coins. I had one... on the end. 1936-S. Think there were 5 mint marks out of the roll. Earlier in the week, I bought an "OBW 1954-D Jefferson roll" that had BU coins in it, but nothing was even close to full steps. Perhaps I should pass the rolls to my kids so that they can claim that they haven't searched them too.. (not) Anyway, sorry I wasted your time on my rant.. my whining is done.
