There aren't a lot of fake EL hektes around so I was surprised when this popped up in eBay. It pretends to be Bodenstedt 55 but it's a failure. It somehow reminded of Guernica lol. I think there's a new forger in the Czech republic, he also tried to fake a coin from Paphos some time ago (https://www.cointalk.com/threads/a-fake-silver-stater-from-paphos.371227/)
My eye was first drawn to the crest. Of course the reverse is off as well, but I like to look at secondary details most forgers do not do enough research to know what they are copying. For the supposed level of conservation, the helmet face and crest are all wrong. Thanks for pointing it out sir.
I wish I could believe this. There has been so many mini-electrums offered in the last few years that some sellers have been selling them in bulk lots. This is not the sort of situation that can be passed up on the faker community. Is it that there are no fakes or have we just not caught up yet? Of the coins I am not buying these days, electrums are well positioned on my list to avoid. Maybe, someday, I may feel comfortable with the subject; probably not. I always loved this type with the overlapping faces that play nicely with each other. This coin misses the spirit.
I don't even remember when was the last time I saw a fake EL hekte from Lesbos. You are probably talking about even smaller fractions than hektes, probably the uncertain types from Ionia which are blanks with striations etc...
