Im sure there's a story some where, but i have coin club tonight and i'm the cook, White chicken chili, chips, sour cream and cheese. i know most of you have one, so post your Leo coins and any story about how wise he was... Byzantine.. Leo Vl, the wise..886-912..AD. AE Follis. Obv. Crowned facing bust with short beard, wearing chlamys and holding akakia. Rev. +LEOn/En QEO Ba/SILEVSR/OmEOn. Mint..Constantinople.. 25mmx 6.04g. Red/brwn/lite green patina..
Nice round-up. There must still be a lot of these around i guess (Have some, but no access to them now) The "Q" of QEO should be read as theta of "ThEO" i guess ?
In the US, En @EO would be read, 'under God'. Earlier European readings might be 'By the Grace of God'. Those who do not have a theta on their keyboards often use Q but I prefer @ if I must avoid the th translation. By the time of Leo VI, Greek and Latin alphabets were somewhat 'developed' from the Classical. Note the consistant 'lower case' b and n forms.
I purchased off vcoins where i buy most of my coins, this is how the dealer listed it, Q verses th, i will change this in my notes.. Club last night, no ancients, but bought 90% silver coinage or junk silver for less then spot. my club members 46 that showed up, ate everything in sight. 15lbs of chicken breast, 15 can of white and black beans, chips, cheese, oranges and cookies. Note: for any one that wants to make white chicken chili here's how. Very easy... 1. 1pg. McCormick WCC seasoning mix 1.25 oz., any large store should have. 2. 1lb. bnls skin chicken breast. 3. 1 can S&W white bean and S&W 1 can blk bean. 4. shredded cheese any you like. 5. sour cream 6. any white corn chips. bake chic brst,( 35min.) dice small bite size. toss in large frying pan or sauce pan,add beans and half cup of water. heat and add seasonings, simmer till it thickens.. drop chips at the bottom of your bowel, dip some chili on top, add cheese, and sour cream..Yum.. thanks for your comments and awesome coin posts..
This thread spurred me to finally photograph a bunch of Byzantines. Here are a couple more folles, one a duplicate and the other a different type. Looks like I have all of Leo VI's folles-- Sear 1728, 1729, and 1730.
