I gave it a try but can't match it up with anything in Wright's book.

I've misplaced my Newcomb and Rounds guide but I am pretty sure it is a N-1.

Try N-14 The reverse looks like "I."

    N-1 looks right.

    I thought N-14 used Reverse "M".

After locating my Newcomb and Rounds guide I agree with you that it is a N-14. the curl diagnostic mentioned in Newcombs description fits and looking at the "I" alignment with the denticles is spot on.

    Thanks, people.
Now I have something to try and pin the N-# on.
I'll look more closely at those two and see if I can say, 'Okay, I've got it'.

I'll tell you, the Classic Head Half Cents were a heck of a lot easier to ID.
The most varieties for any of the dates was 6.
Get into the double digits for the Matron Large Cents is tough.

1838 cents all look similar. One of the harder dates to attribute for us rookies.

Yep, I spent about ½ hour working on it BEFORE I posted here.
Wanted to see if I could do it.
    Obviously I wasn't able.

Your 1838 cent is an early-state Newcomb 10. Guaranteed! 1838 is a very tough year to attribute, but your coin is a lovely one that makes the task doable. I can't make my Facebook insert a .jpg from my computer, but if you drop me an email at thejohn@sbcglobal.net I can send you some pictures.

Thanks for correcting me. I couldn't tell if the "1" was doubled in the OP's image.

I made my determination between N-10 and N-14 (same rev) because IMO, the "1" is closer to the denticals on N-14 than on N-10.

    Can someone please help
I have a couple coins im trying to find out their classification
    (1) dime ,1999 (d) no ridges , approx 1/32 groove between the sides , kinda looks like an oreo

The other is a 1984 penny with no trees and missing some steps on the monument , also a groove under the monument near the bottom edge , any ideas

This is one of the reasons I love Large Cents... so many varities, overdates, errors etc starting with the flowing hair, drapped bust, classic head, coronet head and braided hair all in a 60yr period. And every time I think i've seen em all something new pops up :D

I just realized what you were attempting to do.
I don't have Facebook or any of those other apps (Tweet, etc.)
    I am definitely old school.

I have a land line for home (telephone only).
I have a cell phone for when I'm out of the house (telephone only).
I have an e-mail address for computer work.

I guess I miss a lot of things because of that BUT I don't need to spend a lot of time looking at a hand held device.

I recently accidently discovered that I have an Outlook mailbox.
There were messages in it going back to 2018!

I believe I also have a gmail account.
I had to create it for some forgotten reason.
Don't even know what the addy is but I can make a good guess.
But I don't know how to get to it so ... whatever.
