Bummer. Well, you have (or will soon have) a nice collection of German Empire coins there - and mostly silver, it seems. So you collect them not just by type but also by year and mintmark? That may become costly ... Christian
Thanks for reminding me Christian LOL glad the Mrs is at work and cant read this Yes I would like to try to get full year sets of mainly the silver, I know that some of the bits are out of my price range but I can have fiun finding what I can afford
Nice coins Steve, good luck in your search for the rest of the set. BTW congrats it appears you have an official position at Coin Talk.
Steve, congratulations on your promotion.I see nothing wrong with collecting Nazi German coins,as they are very distinctive & attractive in their own way,not just because a majority of Nazi German coins depict the Swastika, but generally. If only coins could talk. Aidan.
Steve,do you want to post pictures of your Iron Cross 2 Kopecks, which was issued for the German Occupation of Russia? These coins actually remained in circulation in the 3 Baltic states until around 1922. Despite the prices given in Krause, they are very hard to find in nicer grades.Usually, you see them all black. Aidan.
Steve, that is one very historic coin you've got there. These coins are known as 'Iron Cross coins',because of the cross shape enclosing the denomination, which is expressed in Russian, which indicates that these coins were for civilian use, even though they were issued under military authority. There are 2 mintmarks - 'A' & 'J'. Aidan.
Steve, you may have to buy them off a dealer in Germany.I'm sure that Christian could recommend a good coin dealer in Dusseldorf. Aidan.
For such "older" coins (ie. not from the Federal Republic of Germany) I would go to Ritter, on Immermannstr. near the main railway station. Their website is here: http://www.muenzen-ritter.com/ - and if you don't buy there, browsing the gallery may still be interesting. Have a look here http://www.muenzen-ritter.com/galerie/?area1=Deutsche%20M%FCnzen%20ab%201871&area2=Nebengebiete& and click on "Oberbefehlshaber Ost" for example. Also worth checking out: muenzauktion.com and its web store. That site http://www.ma-shops.de/combines the offers of several coin dealers. If you click this link http://www.muenzauktion.com/shops/su_cat.php5?lang=en&catid=352 you should get to a list of those kopek coins ... Christian
