These are some nice historical Indian coins. Thanks for refreshing some nostalgic memories. Did you get any of those nickel 8 annas from 1919 or 1920? Regards Ballabh Garg
Unfortunatly dont have a 8 Annas as yet but am hunting for one and thank you for your kind comments Ballabh they are appreciated :smile De Orc :thumb:
2 more Rupees to add t the collection the 1903 looks very hazy I am sure it has been cleaned but still a nice addition. De Orc
Your Indian collection is coming along quite nicely. Any idea as to the group name for `tigers'? If they were lions, you would have a `pride' of them....but I don't quite know how to refer to the grouping of tigers.......
Um Ian I think the group name is Scary I am enjoying collecting this set, I love the variety that there is out there lOL and they are not going to break the bank. De Orc Tiger = A swift or ambush :thumb:
De Orc those are all great coins, I particularily enjoy the rounded squares and the octagonal, don't see too many issues like that.
Quite a few of the commonwealth coinage seems to have odd shaped coins thrown in amongst the regular round types LOL if you have a look at some of my previous posts you will see some more. De Orc :kewl:
Well I can give an impression of the image. It's awfully dark and low contrast isn't it. Have a look at the truncation of `oor wullie'. Is there anything on it (F raised or F. incused)? There are elements on the reverse of your coin that are subtly different from KM450.1 (nothing on truncation) so i'm kind of hoping you'll find a raised or incuse F on yours. If there is nothing on the truncation i'd be a little suspicious as to its authenticity and want to check out its weight etcetera, but as it stands it looks to be a (probably) genuine example of KM450.2 or 3 in good fine condition.
Thanks for that Ian  Yep the 'F' is there and the weight is slightly under that shown (11.64/68) De Orc
Steve, the cupro-nickel 8 Annas is a very difficult coin to find. The 4 Annas does turn up from time to time.Eventually,I will get one.I will also get a British North Borneo silver 25c. one day after missing out on one in an auction that also had 3 Indian silver coins with it. Aidan.
which is it...raised....or incused? The incused usually shows up as if it had been drawn on in black ink. The coin should weigh in at 11.66 gms if it is Unc. In VF it should weigh in just very marginally less. If your coin is 11.64 gms, I certainly wouldn't be worried. If it was 11.68gms however,......I would be. That is overweight, and let's face it, the British East India Company were never renowned for giving anything away unnecessarily, especially precious metals.
Spock1k,are you over in India,as you seem to be able to pick up a lot of very nice coins? We have a lot of trouble picking up nice Indian coins - both copper/bronze & silver over here in New Zealand.Indian gold coins are virtually impossible to find over here, apart from those gold Fanams that I have trouble identifying which Indian Princely State they come from. Aidan.
