    Frank:

Neither am I, but for $10 for two stunning cameos I didn't think I could go wrong. Then unfortuanately I talked to someone who told me how they did it. Or at least his opinion on how they did it, and why they are raw. I was thinking about submitting them to NCG, but I may try a $10 experiment on another on my own before I send these to be body bagged. Who knows? They could be dead wrong, and I could have some stunning coins for $10!

    Thanks for the enouraging words

For $10, it's hard to say you did poorly....

The first coin looks very nice. The second is a bit light on the frosting, but still very attractive. That said, sending these coins into be graded will likely be a losing proposition, as unless they go 70DCAM, you are unlikely to recoup your costs to get them slabbed.

Regardless, congrats on your two NEWPs...Mike

Are you saying that they were cleaned or doctored?
    Sorry to hear that.

    Frank:

Someone told me that if you take a hazy cameo Ike proof and quickly dip it in MS-70, it will come out looking clear and cameo again, just like this. Granted, the coin has to be a cameo before the haze, but the MS-70 will remove the haze alone.

Most proof Ikes suffer from some kind of haze, and I bought these because of the lack of haze. I own a nice, original 1973 Brown Box that is a nice, cameo coin with no haze. It took me a while to find one thta I was happy with. This is why he (my someone) says the coins are raw, and it makes sense to me. I think I am going to find out with an ugly one. Maybe even post before and after pics here.

    we'll see

I look forward to seeing your experiment.
    It should be interesting.
And, let us know how the coins are when you get them.

Mike - they don't body bag coins just because they were dipped. If they did, there wouldn't be any slabbed coins around.

But did you friend also tell you that the haze will often return ?

Oh we indeed both agreed on that point. by that time, tho, it's already slabbed.

Not only did it start to return, but the haze started to return before I even received the coins! I e-mailed the seller and told him that the coins have already started to re-haze, we'll see what he says.

As I had figured, he said that I could return the coins for a refund of the bid only, not shipping which is fair. I just told him how about you give me a $3 refund and we call it even. My winning bid was $10.50. Does anyone tink that's unfairof me?

Mike I do not think I would worry to much about $3.00 but that is your business. Nice Ikes by the way

Please pardon my ignorance, but why just $3?

Mike - Nice Ike's, sorry to hear about the haze.

Phoenix21 - I believe Mike is asking for a discount on the original price. He will keep the Ike's and get a fair price for his purchase.

    Best Regards

not concerned about $3, it will neither make nor break me. What I want is a fair price for what I got vs. what I bid on, or more accurately since I can't have the coins in the pictures, I am trying to make lemonade out of lemons. The coins aren't worth ANY premium since they were cleaned, but I figure that if he gives me $3 back, we will both be ok on the deal. This way, neither of us loses vs. me returning them to him and getting a refund minus shipping and insurance. He gets rid of the coins, and I don't overpay for cleaned proofs.

    does that make sense?

Oh, and BTW Darryl: haze is a part of life when you're dealing with proof Ikes and Susies. It's why collectors are always on the lookout for nice haze-free coins.
