    Hi Everyone,

I was interested in buying the silver WW1 medals next year as well as the silver dollars. However the Mint, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that each individual medal will only be sold in a set with a WW1 silver dollar!! [emoji35] so for the 5 medals you would also have to pay for 5 WW1 dollars.

The Mint’s response is that the medals are being sold to help sell the WW1 dollars. That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard/read!!

Anyone going to buy straight from the Mint or just going to wait for dealers to split the sets?

Given that each WW1 dollar will carry a price of $50 something it'll probably be cheaper to wait for the dealer medal sets if you want them all.

I don't have a problem with them making the paring as it makes sense but should have been the full medal run, but I think it was dumb that that is the only way to buy them. Some of them should have been sold on their own or as just a medal set. Even some super set of one of every medal and one of every of the commem versions would have been more attractive.

Lately, I only buy stuff from the Mint if I have a committed buyer for it. As for the medals, I agree that it makes no sense. If they package them that way to sell the dollar coins, I wonder what they'll do to help sell the medals that nobody will want because they can't be bought without the dollar coin. I wouldn't get too upset about their current decision, because as this is a product that's pretty far off from being sold, the rules of the game are subject to change. After the last of the medals is made available, chances are there'll be some sort of prestigious exclusive limited deluxe executive set that will have the 5 medals with a single dollar.

Well supposedly the Mint has updated the 2018 products & there is no separate medals set [emoji35]

I actually want the medals more than the dollar in this set

We need to work together maybe. I only care about the dollar. They can shove the medal(s) as far as I care.

I want one of each. But I’m not going to buy 5 WW1 silver dollars just to get the medals

The Air Service medal I'm a little eh on being a rip off of the British design this year, but the Navy/Marine I want for sure being from a Navy family

Understood. No military history in my lineage since the Civil War.

The dollar is going to be sold separately, right? So no need to buy these sets just to get the dollar. Right?

That’s right but if you want the medals as well you need to buy them, individually, in a set that includes a WW1 silver dollar. I don’t need 5 silver dollars!! [emoji35]

Thanks, that is what I thought.

Yep - frustrating to folks who just want the medals. Boneheaded . . . guess that depends on whether or not they meet their objectives.

Well if their objective is to screw over collectors I’d say they met it!!

It is what it is. We can all get the 5 coin medal set from dealers when they do it hopefully.

I really wouldn't sweat this one now. The mint is notorious for changing the rules mid-game, and today's official packaging options may not be tomorrow's. If you wait until 2019, you'll probably be able to get the medals on the secondary market for less than the issue price.

May I expand upon this please. "Prestigious exclusive limited edition deluxe executive set in a special enhanced finish with gift packaging and a certificate of authenticity signed by the engraver." Yeah, that's it.
