While shopping at a local show this morning, I came across a very late die state 1922 dollar. Notice the double reverse die cracks starting at a small rim cud between 'States Of' running through the eagle and exiting in two locations through the word 'peace'.

I am not a variety specialist in this series and wonder if anyone out there who is might be of assistance. Is this a known variety? If so, would it be expected to fetch a premium?

Are those die cracks or scratches? I can't tell with the lighting. Can you zoom near the rims top and bottom. Go to VAMworld.com and look up 1922 Peace Dollars. This would be a known variety if it is that big. I have never seen it if it is a die crack.

It looks like it has been knifed. I'd say it's post mint damage rather than a true die break. I'd like @Cascade, @SuperDave or @messydesk to confirm. But it appears that metal has been moved to produced the raised areas and the "breaks" are just unnatural looking.

    Yup. Damage.

This is the best I could do for images. What I can say for certain is there is no rim damage at either entry point (top or bottom). I just have a hard time attributing to damage when I don't see anything besides raised metal...

I can see nicks/marks on both sides at the rim, right in line with the scratches.

Pics aren't good enough, but the top part sort of looks lamination-like. Idk...

Are you sure they're not just stains?
