I have been inspired by Marshall Link is to an 1845 N7 which is officially a R5 coin, although I think it may overstate the rarity. The coin is in very bad shape, but if anyone needs a hole filler I am sure you can pick this one up for cheap. The date position is diagnostic, the 1 is right of the bust, all numbers are far from the bust, and the 1 is tucked up by the dentils. Additionally you can see the repunching inside the 8. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270771596549&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Thanks for the tip! I have a hard time with most late dates, but the only close match (1 near dentals and left side at gap) looks like N-8 which doesn't have the remnants of the 8 showing.
On N-8 the one is actuallay above the dentil to the left of the coin I posted. It's the position of the 1 in reference to the bust, on N7 the 1 is to the right of the edge of the bust, on n8 it's to the left of the edge of the bust. Additionally on N8 the curl is over the right side of the 8, on N7 the curl is over the middle of the 8.
