So, I just started roll hunting maybe a couple of months ago and I have done nothing but pennies and little bit of nickels.

I first started asking the tellers for rolled coins but quickly found that more times than not they did not have anything to give out or a very limited amount. I asked about the coinstar machine oneday and the teller was willing to take out the full bag and transfer them to me. The $50 bag was loaded with copper and wheats.

I decided to ask again for a bag about a week later and the bank agreed to do it again and actually gave me a card and the name of the lady who would help me if I wanted more in the future. All I had to do was call ahead and they would put them aside.

So, out of about $500 worth of pennies of the last couple of months Here are my results:
Nearly $65 (face) worth of copper pennies.
257 Wheat Pennies (range 1919 to 1958) with several nice examples and semi-key dates.
    1 1890 Indian Head Penny
$8 worth of dimes that have mistakenly dropped in the penny bag during sorting including a 1947 silver dime.
    1 Cud penny

So, needless to say, if you can work on getting a deal for Coinstar bags I definately recommend it. Much wider variety of coins coming from the people dumping there coin jars. The dimes are a nice addition as they are covering what I pull out of copper.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations on how to get Coinstar bags? I can't imagine how one would even accomplish such a thing aside from camping a machine until someone came to empty it.

I would just go to your bank, obviously need a branch with a coinstar machine, and talk to a teller. I was honest with them and told them what I was doing and they just said that all I needed to do was call ahead and they will hold a bag or two and would not send them back to the treasury. they told me that in any given week they could empty the machine up to 15 times.
So, that is what I did and it seemed to work pretty well. Maybe I just spoke to a person who was/is willing to do a little extra but I can't imagine that this branch is the only one willing to help a customer.

Thanks for the advice! I don't know of any around me (Akron, OH general area) but I'll keep watchful. I don't know if it's just this region, but I have never seen any kind of coin machine in banks around here.
    Boooo!

Maybe I should scope out credit unions.
