One more in the batch of inexpensive coins I got last week that I can not quite peg down yet. The seller attributed as:NICE COMMAGNE SAMOSATA SEVERUS ALEXANDER AE26. It weighs 9.91 Grams Gauranteed Authentic But the legends do not match Severus Alexander from the ones on Wildwinds anyway(it has been down lately so text only). They list a M.Aurelius,Caracalla, & Elagabalus with part of the same legend on the obverse but the bust does not look like them. I am sure there is a Roman expert who could identify the portrait easily? Thank You!
Just figured it out! It is Caracalla (I think anyway): Caracalla AE32 of Samosata, Syria. AYK M AY ANTΩNINOC CEB, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / Φ CAMOCAT ΠACY AYT MHTΡOΠ KOM, Tyche, turreted, seated left on rock, holding eagle and corn-ears, river-god swimming left below.(from wildwinds)
Well after reading up on this emperor with his history of fratricide and basic tyrannical butchery I know just the student who would love this coin!.
