    Folks,

I generally pop on here with a question or two once in a while (Though I do read the forums regularly as it is a great venue to learn information). Just for fun, I thought I would post my last purchase of 2016 with my first purchase of 2017. Please feel free to judge, bash, berate or belittle my purchases. I love them and couldn't be happier.

My last purchase of 2016 was an 1882 $5 Half Eagle certified MS-61 by NGC. I paid $375 which is about on par with HA. This is important because though I have some bullion, I have never owned any pre-1933 gold and it was important for me to be pre-1900. The 1882 is great because its so readily available in Mint State condition.

My first purchase of 2017 was an 1872 Two-Cent Piece certified F-12 by PCGS. I paid $475 which again is about on par with HA but significantly lower than PCGS price guide (For whatever that's worth...). This is important for me because, aside from the 1867 D/D, it completed my Two-Cent collection. I do have 3 I will be upgrading but I consider it complete nonetheless. Of note, there were only 65,000 coins minted this year and PCGS estimates 2,000 have survived with roughly 600 certified.

Thanks for whatever you have to say and feel free to share yours as well!!

Both are very nice pieces in their own right but the $5 outshines -- literally -- the 2 cent piece.

A 2-cent piece collection, interesting. I've always found those coins fascinating, but have only ever owned one, which sadly exited my life in a purge years ago. The 1872 is a toughie - was it a long search or did the internet make it more available?

The Two-Cent piece was actually a childhood favorite. I never actually thought (At 14 years old) that I would be able to afford the 1872. Unfortunately its the only one certified so it can't fit in my DANSCO. I might print off a photo or something, not sure.

Ewomack, the internet made it much easier to find. When I was looking, I noticed that Ebay generally tended to either be higher in price or questionable fakes. Ended up going with my normal on-line coin dealer (I'm in Germany) because they randomly had one in their inventory.

Jwitten, I know its risky to start buying gold but as of now all I really want to achieve is a Gold Type Set, in conjunction with the remainder of my coins so I don't see me getting a Liberty Half Eagle again.

    Thanks everyone!
