My last coin for the year 2017 seems to be a gold Byzantine. That's the first gold coin in my entire collection. It weighs 3.54 g. I can't guess what it represents nor do I know the attribution. Thanks for your kind assistance.
Wow.. that is really heavy! 107.73 Ounces or 6.73 Pounds Congratulations on your first gold coin. It's really nice.
Wow. I typed 0 instead of a dot or point. It's already corrected above. Thanks P98. Do you have any idea about attribution ? I'm not familiar at all with gold coins.
@7Calbrey I think it's actually a gold ducat of Venice, or an imitation. The weight seems to be spot on. Venice minted the ducat from the late 1200s until the late 1700s with almost no variation in style or weight. I am not very knowledgeable about these coins but I'm sure someone on here, such as @FitzNigel is.
It seems to be a Zecchino struck in Venice, probably in the 17th century. Obverse shows a doge kneeling before Saint Marc. Reverse has Christ standing in starred field. There are many varieties of the obverse legend. They seem to be expensive.
With the help of coin-friend Spirityoda, we found the coin on E-Bay. The kneeling doge on obverse has his name behind him in right field. He's Michele Steno. The coin is from Venice - year 1400 - 1413.
