My last coin of the year seems difficult. I chose it because it looked different. There are 2 busts, one on each side of the coin. Obverse has a star before chin, whereas reverse has a star behind neck. It could be Roman and weighs 7.8 g. Please help identify. Thanks..
Thanks a lot. It's a biblical coin. He was one of the first kings to adopt the religion of Jesus Christ. He became king of Edessa, capital of Osrohene in the year 4 BC. He died circa 40 AD. Possibly of Aramean or other Semitic descent, he exchanged letters with Jesus Christ Himself. A relic was found in the Monastery of Saint Catherine - Mount Sinai figuring Abgar V who is showing the Mandylion which includes the image of Christ. Some scientists believe that he is mentioned in " The Acts of the Apostles" under the name of king Agabs who accompanied the disciple Barnabas to Antioch. His wife queen Helena sold all her fortune and bought cereals from Egypt to distribute them in Judea during the great famine which occurred there at the time of Emperor Claudius..Her tomb lies till now in front of the gate of Jerusalem. King Abgar V is venerated as a saint by the Greek orthodox church, as well as the Armenian Eastern church. There's too much more to read...
@7Calbrey : Abgar V, whose biography you found, is from the early 1st century AD; Abgar X, on your coin, is about 200 years later (contemporary of Gordian III, who was 238-244 AD).
