Saw this & was pretty impressed. Lots of culls it looks like. 1129lbs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIGGEST-Coin-Collection-EVER-eBay-1-129-Pounds-135-Albums-Silver-RARE-DATES-/360414374294?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item53ea5ee996 Sellers photos of the coins, lots! http://www.neatstuffsite.com/usb.htm
They ought to take the obvious junk silver and sell it as a separate auction or two. They really need to thin that pile down to a more controlable size. This is a case where more is not better. The close up photo's show the face side only. You would need to see both sides to make sure you know what you have. I wouldn't begin to bid on this without seeing it in person. Way too many variables to even think about.
What a haul Mat! It would be a load of fun just to go through all that stuff. Of course I can't afford something that big, but if I could I'd be a little hesitant to spend that much without seeing it in hand. Very interesting post Mat...Thanks. Bruce
"loaded with key dates and rare coins worth $150,000 alone!" Really? With a reserve of only $44,544.00? IMO, both the buyer and the original seller are getting the shaft here. 3 bids, with the highest at $44,544.00. Shills?
Where do you see what the reserve is? I see its still not met at 44k. It has almost 6 days to go, and everyone knows serious bidders bid in the last few seconds. I wonder what the reserve is? 100k?
I'd agree, if it involved that much money and that many coins, I'd want to see, sort and look through them in person before just blindly bidding on eBay for something like that. Plus consider, when people sell on eBay and they mention a price or value within the description, you can bet since they have a reserve price that the value they mention is likely going to be the same. This seller wants 150k and it's not going to sell. They'd be better off sorting it themselves and selling them in groups or individually.
I'm sure they are Chris, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money on something like that, I want to be up close and personal. The guy is probably on the level but there's just too much room for shenanigans.......
Well, I like large lots..... I probably wouldn't bid both for your concerns and the fact I really don't collect US anymore. Have a group like that of ancients, though, and I would be tempted to start liquidating some other assets.....
Nice link. I won't be bidding either. Just doing the math in my head.... silver is at something like $500 per pound. If this is 1,100 pounds and 75% is 90% silver isn't there something like $400,000 of silver in the lot? Perhaps I am off by a factor of 10 but since I'm not bidding, I'll let the bidiots worry about it.
Interesting auction. But I'm like Ken and wouldn't touch it without seeing it in person. $200 is my max bid on anything I can't personally see, whether it be on Ebay or Heritage or anywhere else. It's irresponsible to blindly bid 44K, much less over 100K on a lot where the key dates of all things aren't even photographed up close. If it's too good to be true...well, I don't need to tell you. Guy
I was thinking the same thing about the key dates, I saw the '77 IHC and thought "Why is that sucker not slabbed?"
