    Hi,

I have this very large coin and I'd like to know what it is.

    Any ideas?

I do not see anything to match it in the Red Book.

    Any date??

It's not U.S. It's Brazil, 40 Reis. Very common, worth less than a buck.

Yes I know it's counterstamped...they're very common. Now that I've looked on ebay I see that they sometimes sell for $4-$5. For some reason people tend to think of counterstamped coinage as being scarce but these particular coins are not. We sell them in our junk boxes in the shop and we get them in collections and piles of stuff pretty often. Sometimes we even throw them into our foreign coins by-the-pound lots just to move them out.
