Derzon case takes an $800,000 new twist

Nearly $800,000 from David Derzon Coin Co. was paid to two women who argued they inherited the company - just one week before a judge stripped the women of their ownership in the well-known business and banned them from the premises.

A court-appointed administrator discovered the payments. On Friday, the women, Lori Laatsch and Diane Mehalko, agreed to give the money to the administrator by Monday so that a judge can determine whether the cash should be returned to the West Allis business.

"It's outrageous," said Kevin Demet, the attorney for David Derzon's sons Alan and Mark Derzon, who are now inheriting majority ownership of Derzon Coin. "The only reason the money is coming back is because we caught them red-handed."
