This home pictured was one of my best places to detect over the years. It was built by a civil war colonel.
I was given permission to detect this place whenever I wanted before it was sold. It was up for sale and no one was living there at the time. I had an entire summer of fun there back in the year 2000. I found a lot of firsts for me at that time. My first V nickel back then, first flying eagle, First and only bust large cent, in terrible condition. Not pictured, my first half dime, first 2 center, plus indian heads and other more modern coins. Fun place. They don't come along to often like this one.

Thanks Jim for posting all your great finds. I especially enjoy the history behind the finds.
I think I now what I am going to ask my wife to get me for Christmas. Can you recommend a decent dector that doesn't cost and arm and a leg? Thanks in advance and keeps those posts on your finds coming!

Any mid range name brand detector will work for ya. Whites, Explorer, Fisher, Garret. I would find one of those on e-bay at a good price. Others will have their opinions. Get one that shows the depth of the coin and has different tones on them. Jim

I found this one outta one of my best free places to look. You know those free realestate magazines they have out at stores and markets? I always pick up one of those and go trough them looking for old homes. That is where I found this place. Found out the sellers name from the real estate agent and called the guy up. Got the ok that way.

The house I am living in was built in 1800. Should I detect around my house? What are the best spots around the house to detect? Further into the yard or close to the house?
