Hello Folks, Just joined this forum. Im not a collector per say, and know next to nothing about coins, this one popped up while relic detecting on private property w/ the landownersfull consent. Its a big penny, braided hair variety, full liberty and good shape w/ only 2 numbers where the date should be, an 8 and a 4. There is no sign of altercation of any kind.Is this a known strike error? I can get a pic out if desired Many thanks in advance, Snaps
Welcome to the forum. Yep - a pic would help. Could be struck thru grease or something. Not an expert on the different type of strike issues.
If you found the coin in the ground then it's possible that the "1" and the "4th digit" are just too corroded to make out. It's probably an 184x. As previously mentioned, pics would be wonderful.
