Thanks for taking a peek at my post!

I love shopping for Large Cents online (several sites I frequent). Every time I find a Large Cent that I like (and can afford), it's usually been attributed to one of the many Sheldon Varieties. When I look up the price of a large cent on a normal site (say Nuismedia), it gives me a price of the coin.... however, unattributed.

So the question is.. when i'm recording my collection, and attempting to put a value to it... what do I use? What is your resource of price information for the Sheldon varieties?

I've tried using google... .I've tried using E-bay (useless for the most part when it comes to attributions).... I've tried using Heritage Auctions.... Sadly, most coins found on Heritage and such are in MS condition. My coins are AG-XF only.

Anyone point me in a good direction online?!?!? Please?!?

    Thanks in advance!

There are no good online price guides for large cents by variety. The most used price guide for these is Copper Quotes by Robinson which runs around $50 and at this point is two years old and will not be updated in the future. It's still worth buying IMHO as the prices have not changed too much. I think Bill Noyes also has a price guide for these called Penny Prices, but I believe it's even older and I have never used it.

    Does NGC attribute variety?

ngc and pcgs both do, but they are inconsistent in my experience and they do not guarantee the attribution. Basically they give an opinion, so if you are purchasing a coin based on the variety attribution done by ngc or pcgs then get a second opinion from an actual expert prior to buying.

Thanks for the response Beef! I truly appreciate it. I was wondering if some of the largie normals might chime in (aka Marshall, Condor, MarkH, etc....).

Thanks again! If I should find something decent, i'll be sure to let everyone know!

Well I'll chime in but they have already covered it fairly well. Copper Quotes Penny Prices, experience and knowing what the rarity ratings are for the varieties. Past issues of the annual EAC sales would also be useful, but once again it is not something that is available online.
