I found a Coronet large cent that appears to have an unusual error. I'm really not knowledgeable on errors, and I was hoping some CT members might be able to shed some light on this one. Thanks!
I may be wrong, but it looks to me like it may have just been smashed with a couple of other coins. The other "strikes" look incuse like from another coin instead of from the dies. Also the coin is flattened on the opposite side of the damage.
Yeah, something doesn't smell right here. There's an incuse star on the reverse above the F in OF. The smashings don't quite have the deformation I'd expect from a genuine mint product. I vote for faked error.
It is really rough. If I had the coin I would get it to one of the experts to check out and see what they say.
I think it MIGHT be real, but it is so badly corroded I'm not sure it would be possible to tell for sure. e thing I will say that it has going for it that makes me think it could be real is it appears whatever happened to it happened before the corrosion set in.
That's a multiple strike. Just clipped the edge but you can see the how the edge was clipped >5%. And judging from the rev. I say another coin was in the chamber that transferred to the coin. Or took another hit being off center . Nice pick up would love a multi strike of this era. Value in the $500-700 price range .
I have seen this coin in hand... Heck I took those pics... I think it has a fighting chance of being a real error.
