    Hey guys,

Was just browsing through e-bay this morning, cruising for some large cents, and I came across this posting:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Colonial-Co...50?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item43b5be5962

I can't believe this person is selling an entire set like that! How many of those coins have not been attributed... just at quick glance, I noticed that the 1800 is an 1800 over 79.... I can only imagine if this person got the coins attributed to the Sheldon varieties.. how much money could actually be here! Never mind the fact that he has Flowing hair's...

What are your thoughts? Does this seem legit? Fakes in the bunch? Have you ever seen (other than something like Heritage Auctions) sell an entire collection like this?!??!

I was asked by a small local coin dealer to examine a similar set yesterday. From what I can see with the seller's pics this set looks like mostly lower Rarity pieces, but I have not attempted to attribute from those pics. Pricing seems high to me, I would be more comfortable with something around $6k. Keep in mind that the 1799, 1804, and 1809 are NOT included.

Seems high for the quality , The varieties I see are common from what I can make out. The quality seems on most with enviromental damage on the coins that would have some premeium. Also the coins could have unseen damage on the reverse. I would stay away from this set at that price. Too many variables for what is shown.

One of these days I will go through and see what my set cost me. I am not sure I am a bidder even at 6000.

The owner should pull them out of the folder and provide good photos of both sides.

Many of the coins have serious issues. A few are nice. I'd not be comfortable bidding anything given the crappy photos though.

I agree with Doug that the seller would likely do much better if he sold them individually with better pics.

p.s. I got a chuckle when the seller suggested his father got these large cents at the banks in 1900s. Large cents were long gone from circulation 40 years earlier.
