I'm having fun with this new photo editing software. I haven't taken pictures of these coins before and now I'm pretty happy with the results.
    Thanks for looking :)

It's called Gimp. It's free. @Surgeprotector mentioned it today.
I'm just taking pictures with my iphone and then using the elipse clip tool to cut the coin out and drop it onto a black background.

Thanks, I saw Gimp when I was looking for free photo processing software, but it seemed a little bit intimidating, so I went with PhotoScape...so, you like Gimp?

I just downloaded it a few hours and have only tweaked these pictures today. So far I like it.

Had anyone used either Gimp or Photoscape as well as Photoshop? I've long wondered how either of the former compare to the latter, but haven't seen anyone address this.

I'm also somewhat curious as to how much could be done with the free mobile version of Photoshop, but haven't gotten around to trying.

I only have a cheap Powershot camera, I used to use a Corel photoshop type program I got for free with a rebate, but after changing computers I couldn't find the program key, so I gave it up. People on here recommended PhotoScape as a free useful program and I have been moderately happy with it, but it is really limited in scope. Perhaps I will try Gimp...

Photoshop is what I've always used and I still have the last actual program they had (prior to going subscription), so I ask mostly out of curiosity. I'm guessing the biggest issue with Photoshop for most is the fact it's not cheap, especially for someone using only basic editing features on coin shots. For other types of photography I would assume there is more of a difference with Photoshop being preferable, but is just a guess.

If memory serves me, I think @green18 wrote up a tutorial for one of the two free programs a few years ago, but I forget which.
