Good evening all I came across a couple of nice nickels over the weekend and in further inspection I noticed what looks like a small lamination error that I have pictured below, if it’s not a lamination error could someone let me know what else it could be, I don’t think it’s PMD but then again I’ve been wrong many times before Jefferson nickel by Darren Edwards posted Sep 12, 2021 at 5:58 PM Jefferson nickel by Darren Edwards posted Sep 12, 2021 at 5:58 PM Jefferson nickel by Darren Edwards posted Sep 12, 2021 at 5:58 PM
I don't think it is possible to get a lamination on an alloyed coin. It is made of a mixture with 25% Nickel and 75% Copper I think, not separate layers.
Thank you for the link, I did do some research after the first reply just to make sure I wasn’t getting things wrong regarding the type of error I thought it might be. I know my photos could do with some help lol. Still trying to learn how to focus. Thanks for the reply
Darren, I wish you could post your photos to this web site like others, and post Full Image. Your photos are a bit blurry and when clicked on, only open slightly larger in a new tab. Makes examining them very difficult.
If you're talking about the 'yellowish' stuff to the left of the I in IN - it's not an error, lamination, or anything that occurred at the Mint. It's 'stuff' to the left of the I - and it was there after the coin was struck and released.
