I am working on turning an accumulation into a collection. The items I want to keep are in need of much better storage. I ordered a sampling of different holders (Coin World slab, Guard House Tetra, Lighthouse Quadrum, and Air-Tites direct fit). I really like the air-tites which many in this forum seem to agree with. My coin IQ is not high enough to just look at a coin and know what it is yet, so I was wondering if there is a way to nicely apply some labeling to the air-tites. I got their catalog and see the display cards in there. My question is, can you write on or stick labels on the single/double sided air-tite display card? If I could just write the year/grade and an inventory number on there somewhere I think I would be good to go. Putting the display cards in their storage box seems like a nice fairly compact way to protect coins. Thanks for help from anyone who uses the display cards or has another idea. BTW, I already read where some put the air-tite into a 2x2 for labeling. That is probably my backup plan if I can't write on the cards.
I have some of the display cards and boxes. One side of the display card is black velour so I doubt anything will stick to it, but the other side is a fancy black paper and I bet a label would stick to it, haven't tried though.
I put airtites in the larger 2.5 x 2.5 half and dollar size window flips and they have 12 pocket pages to store them in a binder. I write on the 2.5 x 2.5's.
I don't mean to hijack your thread , but it is about the same question I have in labeling my , Intercept Shield 2X2s or any hard plastic 2X2s . Thanks .
One other thing you should know about the display cards is that they give off a pretty strong smell if they have been closed up in the box. I've had my type set stored this way for about 6 months and while I haven't noticed any changes in my coins' conditions, such as toning, the thought is still in the back of my mind that whatever that smell is may not be good for the coins. I can't imagine that a reputable company like air-tites would make a storage product that wasn't inert though. Just thought you should know if you are considering buying some.
You can use avery labels? and wrap it on the edges of coin holder or on top of it if you don't mind obstructing the view of the coin?
