A lot of people who post here seem to be critical of the grading standards of advertisers in Coin World. What's the general feeling about L & C Coins?
I used to buy from them on eBay. Never had a problem save an overgraded PCGS proof that they corrected readily. I have heard several who have bought from them directly and they were all pleased although I find their prices a little high.
My experience is Really high prices(not always), good service and good coins. I would not hesitate to buy from them again. I only you receive as good a service.
If you want slabbed moderns, they always have a bunch on the Bay..I got my 1982-present Lincoln proofs, all PF69DACM from them....paid no more than $10 for any of them. 1c,5c,10,25c...if you want those moderns they are a good source.
L & C used to carry a few low grade (60/63/64) raw Lincoln Cent Proofs from 1936-41. They don't seem to be on the market much anymore. Anyone have any idea why? I'm definitely a niche collector, so I often have to accept high prices. OTOH, when you go a bidding, on places like Heritage or Teletrade, you pay the price to compete with whoever is trying to buy the same coins you are trying to buy.
Not really. If I can find two really nice coins - one on Heritage and one at a dealers, then I might try to beat the dealers price. It is not that I don't like dealers, but on some coins dealer prices are higher than auction prices - I see no reason to eliminate a source. So I watch several places for the coins I want and need. So at times winning an auction on Heritage(ebay or teletrade) saves me money. Just my opinion.
For teh coins I am looking for (63 - 65 certified Lincolns 1909 - 1930 and higher later dates), I find that Heritage is usually cheaper than eBay and always cheaper than any dealer I can find.
I have been collecting key and semi-key Barbers lately - the whole series; dimes, quarters, and halves, in mid-level grades. I enjoy it in that what I need for my collection is not easy to find, which makes it fun to spend time looking for them. Sometimes I buy dupes, if I see one of interest. I can't afford the high level quarters, such as the 1901-S, or the 1913-S, but I did see a Fair-2 1913-S quarter on Heritage last week that was within my price range, although I wound up winning something else and didn't want to seriously compete for that coin at the levels being bid. Had it been the only coin of interest to me, in that auction, I wound have did more strongly on it. The same auction had a lot of coins of interest to me in my price range. When it rains ti pours, as they say. My price range runs up to $500 or so.
