Thought I would post this before heading off to work. Kings of the Bosphorus AV Stater dated CNV=485BE=188/9AD/ 20mm. 7.73g. .500 King Sauromates II 174/75-210/11AD obverse: Laureate/ draped bust of Commodus right reverse: Diademed/ draped bust of Sauromates II right/ Club BACILEWC CAYPOMATOY Frolova Pl. XXX.11 MacDonald 496.1 Does anyone know the mint city? At the end of his reign (Sauromates II) the coinage went from 50 percent gold content to 25 or less. Back in those days, when sovereign governments ran out of precious metals, they where screwed, unlike today where they print insane amts of currency/ running up horriffic debts.
