JORDAN.JPG So, after a long time hearing about the virtues of Craigslist vs. Ebay I finally took the plunge to see exactly how good it could be... as a seller.

Well, it's Thursday and I listed a high dollar item along with a few nicely toned relatively cheap GEM BU random coins.

It's now late night, and "ALL" of my items:
    1 - SOLD in hours
2 - SOLD at the price I wanted
    3 - SOLD with NO FEE's
4 - SOLD in HOURS not days.

Think I've found a new home for selling ; )

To all of you sellers out there... Recommend you give it a spin !!

CRAIG'sLIST is exploding !! I give it my HIGHEST recommendation as an escape from EBAY, FEE's, and associated EBAY headaches.

    Love'n it...

nice how much did you sell the coins for?

$24 for all the coins. Card went for $500 even.

I have 8 more of the cards (all in better grades to go).... and quite a few more coins too. It's slower to list, but they get gobbled up fast. It is a bit of a learning curve and rules are different, but results if you do some homework before listing is amazing !! I can't believe anyone lists any coins on ebay at all... if I'd only know earlier... if someone would have just told me !!!

You just never know about Craigslist. I just sold a 56 year old oven for $400.

Craigslist is horrible in my area. It took me over a month to sell a $600 (new) pair of speakers for $80.00. They were not old, and in mint condition.

Also, at one time, I had $1,500 saved up and placed an ad that I was paying top dollar for silver, not one person took me up on that offer.

18% fees is worth more than my life so ill take that over meeting a stranger in person.. especially for items $500+

If your having problems in your specific city, then try posting to another city. I didn't sell any of my items in my city. I think as long as you don't post in multiple cities and geo-locations then you will remain within their rules. The spirit of the rule as I read it is that you should only post an ad in one (most applicable) city, not specifically the city you live it. Try posting to large metro areas near your city, or to coin buying hot spots. I sold the card in Chicago, two coins around Bakersville CA, and three coins in Orlando FL.... If they don't sell "fast" in your city, take the ad down and move it to another city. In all cases, the buyer agreed to having the coins or card mailed,,, no need of meeting that spooky stranger.

What type of payment method do you have your buyers use?

Scary... there's no buyer/seller protection, no feedback ratings, no scam protection. Craigslist number one rule: "Deal only with local buyers/sellers you can meet in person".
I never buy or sell there, but that's just me.

A guy here used CraigsList to sell some car rims. He agreed to meet the people in the parking lot of a big store. They found him minus his car, his wallet and all his clothes, plus numerous broken bones.

I've gotten my puppy and both cats on CraigsList, but even then we have "pet flippers" that you have to watch out for.

eBay at least has some protections.

    Questions first:
1 - What type of payment method do you have your buyers use?
Answer - Paypal (with 100% buyer protection).
    or
Once you develop a "relationship" with the fellow "collector" you (as I) can often accept a money order (MO) or a simple check. The beauty of craigslist is in the introduction of "collector" to "collector" relationship from different parts of the country. It takes the 20% margin in the dealer to collector price point immediately out of the equation and you can strike a deal in between that benefits both the selling "collector" and the buying "collector".... and all of a sudden !!,,,, collecting coins becomes not only an enjoyable hobby, but a more resonable investment proposition !!!!

2 - if I was a buyer I probably wouldnt trust someone sending me a coin across the U.S. off craigslist. how did you pull it off?
Answer - depends on you buyer. Some buyers (like me) consider a $20 purchase equivallent to a bar tip after a Saturday football game on a bar stool and are open to risking a low dollar deal to see if the buyer is legit.. to the point they are willing to lose the entire sum of money (again, no more than a bar tip). These guys just send in a check or cash taped to a piece of paper in an envelope.. On craigslist, it's all about "meeting" other collectors and develping a "relationship". Others simply use paypal to secure he purchase protection that paypal provides.... essentialy it is exactly like Ebay's.. where even if someone takes a picture of you receiving your item from the delivery man you can say you never got it and get a full refund. Most of my initial transactions went through paypal. Others (purchasing bar tip items) simply sent in cash or check.

3 - Scary... there's no buyer/seller protection, no feedback ratings, no scam protection. Craigslist number one rule: "Deal only with local buyers/sellers you can meet in person".
I never buy or sell there, but that's just me.
Answer - good ; ) stick with ebay and pay the margin and fee. I use to do that too, and watched the deals (steals) and good buys (with no dealer 20% spread) from 96 to present essentially dissapear. Stick to the rules,, and you'll never see the opportunity in virgin territory as first adoptors (collectors) move their sales from ebay (who is actively pushing out collector to collector sales) to the 'list. I built 75% of my collection from the 'bay in it's "early" days and I can tell you confidently that I can easily sell it for a significant profit today. I can also tell you that any collector trying to build a collection from the 'bay today will have an very very hard time ever selling anything they buy from the 'bay today for anything but a loss in their lifetime. Collector to collector transactions have essentially dissapeared from the 'bay. Lastly, your statment that buyer/seller protection is not present on the 'list is totally incorrect... use paypal, and any protection you get on on the 'bay you will get from the 'pal.

4 - A guy here used CraigsList to sell some car rims. He agreed to meet the people in the parking lot of a big store. They found him minus his car, his wallet and all his clothes, plus numerous broken bones.
Answer - LOL,, so don't be a bumb as*... Car rims ?... parking lot ?
Geez !! This is a coin forum !!!! keep the exchanges anon... use paypal.. go slow.. don't be stupid.... and get to know a fellow collector selling his collection at a price you'd never get from a dealer on the 'bay. (ie - buy low, invest in coins as you collect)

Finally... don't listen to the "spooky" stories.. grow a pair ! You our ancestors said "dang them indians are spooky".. lets eat rotten potatoes and stay safe ? NO.. they had balls, risked deveoping new ideas and governance in a new environment..... and did pretty good. Up to you boys, eat soup or don't.

If you can get better business on Craigslist thats great. Stay safe and be careful when meeting up with people. Always have someone else with you or meet in a well populated area in broad daylight.

I've sold plenty on craigslist... and never had to meet anyone.

Man, the ebay spooky agents are hard at at work. Nothing wrong with using paypal on the 'list folks. It's like the 'bay.. just no fees.

I sold a set of 'slightly used tires' on Craig's List.
Met at a parking lot, in the middle of the day.
He paid me cash, I got rid of the tires.

I've sold 8 more coins since this post. All through mail. Gonna sell a card today while I'm out running errands. No large dollar items, all small change, but really nice with no fees... it adds up to thousands of dollars over time.
