Sine I rarely ever bought or sold any world coins pre 1700, I don't have a Krause world coin catalog covering the 1600-1700 period. I have two in my old inventory that I'd like to price. They are Denmark 2 Skilling 1677 (base silver) in Fine and a Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1/24 Taler 1619 in nice VF. If someone could help me out here, I'd appreciate it.
In case you struggle with the NGC site, I do have the 1601 to 1700 Krause, although it is the 1995 edition! For comparison the Danish 2 skilling lists at USD10 in fine, USD18 in VF. For the 1/24 Thaler there are many variations for that year seeming to vary from USD25 to USD45 in VF and up to USD90 in XF. Hope that helps and would be interesting to know what the up to date valuations are.
There is really no excuse for not having a more recent one, if you would use it or course, as they can readily be found for around $10 on Bookfinder.com
Less easy to get cheap here in the UK, and the postage to buy from the US is prohibitive. I only use it 2 or 3 times a year and an old copy does well enough for identification and an indication of rarity. (Prices, in any printed book, are out of date within weeks, so I check online for those.)
I've actually bought old SCWC volumes delivered from Britain for less than $15. Usually $4-6 for the book and $7-8 mailing. So I know they are available there. I will admit that they are not always there but searching once a month or so should turn one up eventually.
I have the 4th edition(2008) the 2 Skilling list the F at $18 and the VF at $27.50 A photo of the 1/24th Thaler would help identify it by the inscriptions. Must have been busy in 1619.
Assuming I've linked up the correct varieties, here are the NGC (Krause) listings. Denmark 2 Skilling KM# 358 1677(l) German States BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL 1/24 Thaler KM# 117 1619 (b)
