I carry great dislike for people who advertise supposedly great buys in silver coins by taking advantage of common misconceptions of what an ounce of silver really is, also the melt values of our most popular US Silver Coins. Here's a couple cheat sheets for you. Please feel free to comment on other ways shady dealers take advantage of us, and especially our young collectors.
And if you see someone on eBay selling silver by the troy pound, keep in mind that one troy pound is TWELVE troy ounces. So a troy ounce is more than an avoirdupois ounce, but a troy pound is less than an avoirdupois pound. Just one more way that some eBay sellers try to deceive their buyers.
don't get screwed over, ALWAYS check the price of silver before even thinking about selling and check the melt of each type of coins you are selling. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/coin-melt-values.aspx
I just keep it in Grams. Don't own enough to worry about pounds. And Sometime I wonder If the general public even know how many grams in a ounce.
I've wondered how gold dust would fit in under grains. Some of the dust is so fine that its got to be smaller than a grain. Saw pan colors that were almost microscopic reflecting in the light. I've been looking at different mesh sized gold nuggets.
The biggest ripoff I keep seeing on TV now is those gold leaf bills. $7-$10 each for 1/30th gram of gold. HSN Mike coin guy keeps pushing this garbage. He's all yanking on the bill to show its "sturdiness". Without its plastic coating, it'd fall apart in his hands. So lame.
