Several months ago I conducted a little test on another list. I was new to the list but not new to the hobby. I'd posted a picture of a coin with a very scarce die anomaly. The price of the the coin w/o the 'die cud' was significantly less than the much scarcer (R-6/7) variety with it.

I mentioned I was considering selling the piece and if anyone was interested please make a private offer and I'd consider it. Chuckle, you should have seen the lowball offers I received but NONE mentioned the relatively obvious 'cud' except one individual who informed the thread is was simply machine doubling (???) and wasn't even worth minimum money. This after I declined his private offer of average cash... LOL.

Were you able to verify that any of the people making offers did recognize the rarity prior to making the low offer?

I hope so, several of the members who made offers were (self acknowledged) semi-experts on the series. I received offers from roughly 5% of the active list members, 13 individuals made some sort of overture and yes Skylark, your offer of $5.99 CDN still stands as the HIGH offer, LOL
