There's a coin shop within walking distance of my house. The owner's friendly, and I've tried to support him, but every time I go there he gives me awful advice! He's told me to dip my coins (the glare in his shop is blinding), and when I tried to buy air-tites from him he didn't know what they were. When I described them, he declared, "Don't use 'em! Your coins will corrode!" His tirade about gold was so over the top that my sister and I cried laughing when we eventually escaped. Poor man. But I give up.

I spend a fair amount of time in San Francisco; do any of you know of any decent coin shops there? I want to show a couple of my problem coins to a knowledgable person. Oh, and I promise to spend some money.

Personally, I do not know of any. But I did manage to find 5 of them listed in the ANA Dealer Directory. Unfortunately none of them seem to deal with world coinage except on gentleman who specializes in Chinese coinage. If you like I can provide those names and addresses, but I don't know if they would be of any help to you since they deal in US coins.

    Up to you.

The only real coin shop in SF is Dons coinworld on ocean ave between 19th ave and juniperoserra blvd.
Ive been dealing with him for over 5yrs and have found him to be fair and honest.
His prices are strait from the grey sheet.
Just so you know he keeps pretty short hour's.mostly 10a-5p tues-fri except when he's on vacation, which is quite often, so call ahead to see if he's open.
His phone #s listed in the SF yellow pages under dons coinworld.
One other thing to keep in mind is that the owner is a little reserved at first, not unfriendly just cautious, until he gets to know you.
Also the only world coins he deals with are gold coins but he carries a good selection of US coins.
Good luck,if you do end up going there tell him Rick sent you, maybe i'll get a discount next time i buy from him.(yeah right):smile

GDJMSP I don't see any mention of world coins in her post?

Her prior postings, almost all of which deal with world coinage, are a real clue to her highly intelligent interests. ;)

A woman can't spend ALL her time watching roller derby. :)

    GD, thanks for checking around.
Rick, thanks for the suggestion. Roy & GD are right about my interest in world coinage, but maybe Don can scare up a French rooster/Marianne for me (I was kinda named after her) once he gets used to having me around. I'd just like for someone to take a look at the condition of a couple of my coins; it's more about the metal than the country of origin.
