Inspired by Talkcoin's thread http://www.cointalk.com/t225924/ I thought I'd share a knee jerk purchase I made recently on ebay. I had a discussion with my father about some of the Liberty gold dollars he's been collecting and the prices he's been paying. The discussion led me to check on "street value" of some Liberty gold dollars vs what he had been paying. It wasn't my intention to purchase any coins on this day, but this day marked my first ever knee jerk online purchase. Now that I have the coin it's going to be sent out for grading. Any thoughts by these less than adequate ebay photos? :devil: I was pleasantly surprised by Talkcoin's results. Is your fathers coins graded or raw? Is he buying from a trusted dealer? I also see where I could buy a nice AU coin for a few dollars more already graded on Heritage. I am not knocking your purchase and I hope it works out for you, but I would not have touched that coin with those pictures. Too many times I have seen people have issues with coins like this. I also do not like that the seller does not have his own return policy. If I purchased it I would get my local shop to check it as soon as possible. I just don't trust myself with gold. I do really wish you good luck and hope it is a MS coin you can make money on.
Go Get 'em my friend :yes: I agree with mark_h in that as soon as you get the goods, bring them to a local B&M and ask their opinion. I always do this as I have established a good relationship with a local guy here. I always try and buy a Dansco album or a couple Eisenhower dollars and a coin magazine when I go into his place. At the very least, he tells me wether he would send in what I have for submission. He has also spotted previous cleanings and environmental damage, which allowed me to return the coins to sender instead of wasting money on a "Details Slab." Even if the eBay seller does not have a return policy, you are still protected by eBay Buyer Protection and (if you pay via PayPal) from counterfeit stuff. You would also be surprised how far good communication goes, if you truly have a problem with an eBay purchase. I have effectively communicated my way back to getting refunds from sellers whom don't offer refunds.
